From Times wire services

Large numbers of U.S. diplomats canceled seats on Pan Am flights in the weeks before the bombing of Flight 103, according to a U.S. congressional panel that saw internal Pan Am documents, a British newspaper reported today.

The Independent, a respected daily, said documents sent to a House panel probing the Dec. 21 bombing show that Christmas holiday traffic for U.S. embassies had been heavily rebooked prior to the bombing.

The report noted that relatives of those who died in the bombing have been angry that warnings of a possible bombing of a Pan Am flight from Frankfurt to the United States were not made public.
