Lindbergh Field Road Resurfacing Will Slow Traffic
The Board of Port Commissioners has awarded a $1.5-million contract to a local construction company for the resurfacing of the roads around Lindbergh Field.
The upshot is that traffic will be even slower than usual while construction takes place from May to September.
The R. E. Hazard Jr. company plans to start construction May 1. The repair and resurfacing will include installing stronger pavement to handle the increasing traffic.
Although most of the construction work directly in front of the airport terminals will be done between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., some work on surrounding side streets will be done during the day, Hazard representatives said.
Airline passengers and others heading to the airport should expect delays and are advised to allow extra time.
During the construction, transportation pickup points may be temporarily relocated, but signs will be installed to indicate where taxi and shuttle services can be found.
Airport officials urge passengers to take shuttle vans or taxis to the airport, since most of the construction work on the roads leading to the airport parking will take place during daylight hours, when most people travel.
Customers can also use several “park-and-ride” services near the airport.
