Israeli soldiers shot and wounded 23 Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip as soldiers increased security in the occupied territories and in Israel to prevent violence during the seven-day Jewish Passover holiday that started at sundown. Violence erupted in four locations in the Gaza Strip, authorities said, and 11 of those injured were children. Meanwhile, an opinion survey published in the daily Yediot Aharonot newspaper said 65% of Israelis support a peace plan by Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir that calls for Palestinians to elect representatives to negotiate autonomy in the occupied territories.
