Southland : T. Jones, Northrop’s CEO, to Retire

Northrop Corp.’s chairman and chief executive, Thomas V. Jones, announced today that he will retire as chief executive of the company that makes the B-2 stealth bomber and other high-tech military hardware.

Jones, who turns 69 this summer, will be replaced as chief executive by Kent Kresa, 51, who has been president and chief operating officer since 1987, the company said in Los Angeles. Jones, who joined Northrop in 1953, will retain the chairman’s post. Kresa was hired by Northrop in 1975 and has headed the aircraft group, among other executive posts at the company.
