San Onofre
A 23-year-old Huntington Park man was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on charges that he possessed 545 pounds of cocaine when stopped at the San Onofre checkpoint.
Felipe Santiago Moran-Pallan was arrested April 6 after U. S. Border Patrol agents found 248 kilogram bricks of the drug in the trunk of the car he was driving.
In a press release, U. S. Atty. William Braniff said the street value of the cocaine is approximately $31 million.
Moran-Pallan is accused of possessing the drug with the intent to distribute.
If convicted, he faces a minimum 10-year federal prison term and a maximum of a life sentence, Braniff said. He could also be fined $4 million.
Moran-Pallan remains without bail in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown San Diego.
