GWF Power Systems Inc. won a preliminary court injunction against the city of Hanford that will allow it to continue construction of a coal-burning cogeneration plant in the Kings County town. Fresno Superior Court Judge Frank Creede, in issuing the order, ruled that there was a possibility that GWF would win in its lawsuit against the city’s moratorium on coal-burning plants when it comes to trial June 29. The ruling allows GWF to continue construction work on the plant that it started last month in Hanford. Attorneys for the city argued that construction should be halted until the case is settled. The Hanford City Council approved the GWF plant last year but new council members elected in November rescinded the approval. GWF attorneys said they will contend during the trial that the original council approval was valid and the moratorium was illegal.
