Countywide : 2 Limousine Companies, Shuttle Service Sued
In a bid to shut down so-called “bandit” limousine companies, Orange County prosecutors have filed civil lawsuits against two limousine companies and a shuttle service allegedly operating without licenses.
John Morgan, a representative for the state Public Utilities Commission, said the suits were filed Wednesday in Orange County Superior Court against the Paradise Limousine Co., Associated Transportation Services and Diplomatic Transportation Network.
Paradise Limousine company has also operated under the name of Top of the World, World Wide Limousine, Beachside Limousine, All-the-Way Limousine and Zippy Transportation, Morgan said.
The companies are accused of violating public utility regulations and county business and professional codes for allegedly operating without permits and failing to carry insurance.
Prosecutors are seeking $250,000 in civil penalties against each company. A pretrial hearing is set for next month.
Morgan said prosecutors are expected to file more civil lawsuits against alleged bandit limousine companies in the county.
