Council Elects Mitoma Mayor

Share

Michael Mitoma, a member of the Carson City Council since 1987, has been elected mayor by his colleagues in a vote that marks a shift in political alliances.

In the vote last week, Sylvia Muise--who had opposed Mitoma directly or backed candidates against him in elections in 1986, 1987 and 1988--seconded a motion by John Anderson to name Mitoma mayor, and then voted for him. Also voting for Mitoma were Kay Calas, Anderson and Mitoma.

Abstaining was Vera Robles DeWitt who, with Mitoma and Calas, had run against candidates backed by Muise in previous elections.
