Aquino’s Press Aide to Resign in May, Cites Lack of Trust
The press spokesman of Philippine President Corazon Aquino announced last week that he will resign effective the middle of May, saying he believes that he no longer has Aquino’s full trust.
Teodoro Benigno, a former correspondent with the French news agency Agence France Presse, said that he had tried to resign last July but that Aquino had persuaded him to stay on.
He said he is now tendering his “irrevocable resignation” and will go back to writing.
Benigno had complained about not being kept informed about government policies; at a press conference this month, Aquino publicly told him his presence was not necessary.
