Soviet and U.S. doctors announced a joint research project aimed at finding ways to treat diabetes, which affects the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels.

“What we are doing will be a collaborative effort that will involve faculty exchanges, joint clinical research efforts and the development of special diabetes clinical care,” said William Henry, senior vice president of the International Diabetes Center in Minneapolis.

The doctors announced the cooperative project after a weeklong visit by a team of Soviet doctors.
