An Escondido man who once was a loan officer for a Vista bank has been sentenced to one year in federal prison for embezzling $126,924 from the bank.

Terence B. Peek, 37, worked at Southwest Bank, 410 S. Melrose Drive, Vista, before he was charged with embezzling.

Peek has paid back about $70,000 of the $126,924, said Paul M. Weil, an attorney and senior vice president for the bank.

On Monday, U. S. District Judge J. Lawrence Irving ordered Peek to repay $49,835.15 after his release from prison.

Peek promised the judge he will make “full restitution.”

His attorney, John Lanahan, said Peek is working in a 7-Eleven and living with his parents.

Irving allowed the former loan officer to remain free until May 22, when he will surrender to begin his term.
