Placentia : New Signs to Mark Old Business District

To celebrate the beginning of a planned revitalization of the city’s old business district, city officials and business leaders today will unveil new signs they hope will give the area a new identity.

Written on the signs is “Placita Santa Fe,” a name merchants coined recently. The Spanish word placita means little square. Santa Fe is the name of one of the major streets in the area. The signs are the first step of an effort to improve the aging area around Santa Fe and Bradford avenues, city administrative aid Patsy Chavez said.

Other planned improvements include landscaping, additional parking, better street lighting and new crosswalks, she said. The city has earmarked more than $340,000 in redevelopment and community development funds for the area.

City Council members and merchants will show off the new signs in a 3 p.m. ceremony at Tlaquepaque restaurant, 111 W. Santa Fe Ave.
