NWA Cancels $1.6-Billion Airbus Order: NWA Inc. canceled a big order for new aircraft. The parent of Northwest Airlines said it didn’t confirm a previous $1.6-billion order for 20 long-range Airbus A-340s by an April 30 deadline. Steven G. Rothmeier, NWA chairman and chief executive, said the order was canceled because NWA is fighting a $2.7-million hostile takeover bid from Los Angeles investor Marvin Davis. A sale of NWA to Davis or another bidder is expected to increase the company’s debt.
