Another Price Freeze for Argentina: Less than a week after Argentina’s economy minister pledged to take no new measures against hyper-inflation, the government has unveiled a price freeze and for the third time in a month, altered its exchange rates. Presidential spokesman Jose Ignacio Lopez announced a wide-ranging price freeze, new taxes and the elimination of a low exchange rate, which irked exporters. The freeze was immediately dismissed by business as counterproductive and predicted to prove ineffective. Inflation is measured on a specific basket of goods and services and often does not reflect the trend perceived by the public. Private analysts forecast a 40% increase in retail prices during May.
