Excess Guns to Fight Latin Drugs Urged

WASHINGTON —
The Bush Administration asked Congress Tuesday for authority to give away weapons to help Latin American and Caribbean nations fight drug traffickers.
Lt. Gen. Charles W. Brown, head of the Defense Security Assistance Agency, told a Senate panel that the weapons would be “excess defense articles.” The Administration is asking $21 million for the plan.
