CSUN Professor Elected President of State Union

A Cal State Northridge professor has been elected the fourth president of the California Faculty Assn., which represents the 20,000 instructors and librarians of the 19-campus California State University system in collective bargaining.

Patrick Nichelson, chairman of the religious studies department at CSUN since 1980, will assume office June 1 for a two-year term. He ran unopposed.

Nichelson, who for two years has been president of the union’s CSUN chapter, said he will press for lighter teaching workloads and high educational standards. Most Cal State instructors are required to teach four courses per term instead of the three taught at comparable institutions, he said.
