Community : Olmos Wins Image Award From Group

The Hollywood chapter of the Hispanic Academy of Media Arts and Sciences announced that actor-producer Edward James Olmos is the first recipient of its new award--the first annual HAMAS Award for the Positive Image of Hispanics.

Olmos was honored for his humanitarian and charitable work, as well as his portrayal of Garfield High School teacher Jaime Escalante in “Stand and Deliver.”

Meanwhile, the fifth annual Imagen Hispanic Media Image Awards--to encourage positive images of Latinos and reduce stereotyping in television and film--will be given by the National Conference of Christians and Jews in Los Angeles.
