Morning Clouds, Afternoon Sun Is Weekend Outlook

May weather has arrived in time for the weekend--coastal clouds and warmer temperatures, the National Weather Service predicted.

A pattern of night and morning low clouds that will burn off by early afternoon, is expected to last through the weekend. The resulting sunshine and warmth should leave the weather pleasant for most outdoor activities.

The clouds and warmer-than-usual temperatures are the result of high and low pressure systems. A high pressure system is keeping all storms in check to the west of the coast.

A thermal low-pressure system situated in the desert, which is sucking in coastal marine air, is causing the mercury to rise slightly.

Temperatures are expected to vary only by a few degrees this weekend.

Beach temperatures ranging from 64 to 68 degrees are forecast. The beaches may clear to only partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. The coastal strip is expected to have highs of 69 to 77 and lows of 55 to 60.

The inland region will reach 78 to 88 degrees this weekend, with some of the hotter areas hitting 90 degrees. Overnight temperatures should drop to the low- to mid-50s.

Mountain temperatures will range from 76 to 82, with lows of 40 to 48 degrees expected.

The deserts will reach 100 to 107 degrees, with nighttime temperatures of 63 to 68 degrees.

The surf is 3 to 4 feet at 12-second intervals and the water temperature is 62 degrees.
