A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged in the murder of an elderly Rowland Heights woman who was found dead in her apartment last month, authorities said Thursday.

Tony Anthony Hardin was arrested Tuesday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives and arraigned Thursday in Citrus Municipal Court, Deputy Hal Grant said.

Hardin was charged in the murder of Norma Barber, 66, whose body was found April 8 by her son at her apartment at 1900 Fullerton Road in the unincorporated area of Rowland Heights, Grant said. She had been strangled.

Hardin had worked as a security guard at the apartment complex. The district attorney’s office will seek the death penalty in the case since the murder allegedly occurred while Hardin was robbing the apartment, Grant said.
