Douglass Watson, the distinguished character actor who played the role of the charismatic publishing magnate on the NBC soap opera “Another World” for nearly 15 years, has died from a heart attack, the network announced Thursday. He was 67.

An NBC spokesman said Watson, who played the part of Mackenzie Cory, was vacationing in Arizona when he died Monday. His last appearance in “Another World” will be broadcast on Wednesday.

The role earned Watson two Emmy Awards, in the 1979-80 season and again in 1980-81.

Watson, who won the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Purple Hearts for his wartime service, appeared in more than 30 Broadway plays, including the title role in T. S. Eliot’s “Confidential Clerk.”
