Ron Brown, the Rams’ wide receiver who failed to make the U.S. Olympic team last summer in the 100-meter dash, said he overtrained and subsequently suffered hip flexor injuries in both legs.

Brown added that he is fit now, however, and will compete Saturday in the fourth annual $70,000 National Football League fastest man competition at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert.

Brown will join six other NFL players in a series of 60-yard elimination races. Brown won the 40-yard title in 1987. The Washington Redskins’ Darrell Green was the winner in 1986 and 1988.

Others in the field are Tim Brown and Sam Graddy of the Raiders, Herschel Walker of the Dallas Cowboys, Phillip Epps of the Green Bay Packers, Anthony Miller of the San Diego Chargers and Clarence Verdin of the Indianapolis Colts.
