Muslim Charity Plans College in Israel City
A Muslim foundation in Saudi Arabia will finance an Islamic college in Israel, the chairman of an Israeli Arab group said Thursday.
Mahmoud Dasoki, chairman of the El Muqassed charity fund, said the college will be built in the Israeli-Arab town of Taybeh, six miles southeast of Nazareth.
Dasoki, whose charity is building the college, said it will be financed by the Moslem World League, which is based in Mecca.
The Moslem World League was set up by the late Saudi King Faisal. It is supported mainly by the Saudi government and sponsors Islamic projects worldwide.
The college will teach Islamic law, Dasoki said. Until now, clergymen in Israel’s Arab communities have studied at colleges in Hebron and Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
The college will open in a Taybeh mosque this month with 50 students, Dasoki said. He did not say when he expected the new facilities to be built or how much they would cost.
