Vietnam Nurses

I’m proud to see that finally a memorial to the Vietnam nurse was added in Sacramento (“Women’s Role in Vietnam War Honored,” Part I, April 26). The combat nurses were called the “unsung heroines” and “In Vietnam, (the nurses) were not only responsible for saving lives, they also substituted as mothers, as wives, as sisters and as friends to the soldiers wounded and left to their care.”
I think this is great, they deserve it, but don’t forget the few male nurses who also served in Vietnam, and the field medics who died in the field with the combat soldiers. As a veteran (1969-1971) and as a nurse (now in the National Guard) I salute all nurses that served in Vietnam.
