Mark Lenzi continued his rapid climb as a world-class diver by winning the men’s one-meter springboard competition as the FINA World Diving Cup concluded Sunday.

Lenzi, a junior at Indiana University, had 402.18 points for his six dives. Valeri Statsenko of the Soviet Union was second with 376.50.

Lenzi’s win was the highlight of a disappointing day for the United States.

Earlier, both U.S. divers failed to qualify for the finals in the men’s 10-meter platform, and Wendy Lucero, who was sixth on the three-meter springboard in the Olympics and finished third in the team competition here, was eliminated in the semifinals of that event.

In the final two events, Chinese divers claimed their third and fourth individual gold medals.

Olympic three-meter gold medalist Gao Min of China, 18, became the only double gold medalist by winning the women’s three-meter springboard. Xiong Ni, 15, closed the meet by winning the men’s platform event.
