The House gave final congressional approval to a bill extending the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday Commission for five years and, for the first time, providing federal money for its operation. The bill authorizes $300,000 annually for the commission, established six years ago to promote observances of the birthday of the assassinated civil rights leader. The House, on a 359-42 vote, passed the bill in the same form approved by the Senate last week on a vote of 90 to 7.
