The older brother of former South Korean President Chun Doo Hwan was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $1.5 million after his conviction on embezzlement charges. A three-judge panel of the Seoul District Criminal Court found Chun Ki Hwan, 60, guilty of pocketing $4 million from the official funds of a fishery products wholesale market that he took over with the help of government officials. Chun Ki Hwan was arrested in November, 1988, as authorities pursued a wide-reaching investigation into irregularities under his brother’s regime. Forty-six people have been indicted for influence-peddling and corruption, including 14 Chun relatives.
