Rockwell Seeks Contract for Cargo Planes: Rockwell International said it plans to compete for a contract to build Air Force C-27 aircraft, a new type of short-distance cargo planes that would operate out of remote airfields. The company announced that it has formed a team with Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA). The Rockwell bid would be based on CASA’s CN-235 cargo plane and, if the El Segundo firm wins, the aircraft will be produced at its Palmdale facility. The initial contract would be for only 10 of the aircraft, but Rockwell said its studies indicate that there is an international market for 60 to 80 planes.
