The University of Southern California held its 106th spring graduation ceremony Thursday in Alumni Memorial Park. USC President James H. Zumberge conferred degrees on more than 2,600 undergraduates and over 3,700 master’s, doctoral and professional candidates.
Michael I. Sovern, president of Columbia University, delivered the commencement address and received an honorary degree. He told the graduates: “You cannot do everything to cure the ills of humanity, but you can do something. . . . If you can change the life of one person, one child, that is a start.”
Also speaking was valedictorian Eva Cleopatra Ihle, a biological sciences major.

Maya Angelou, author, educator, historian, actress, civil rights activist, producer and director.
Dr. Leroy E. Hood, Bowles professor of biology at Caltech and director of Caltech’s Cancer Center.
