A shop owner in the city’s Little Saigon district shot and critically injured a robber after the man entered the store and pulled out a handgun Thursday night, police said.

Binh Kong Truong, 19, of Portland, Ore., was listed in critical condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center after he was shot in the eye and several times in the chest, Westminster Police Lt. Bob Burnett said. Truong was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery.

The shop owner, who asked that his name be withheld for fear of gang retaliation, suffered a gunshot wound through his finger, Burnett said.

Truong walked into the shop at 9282 Bolsa Ave. about 5:50 p.m. and allegedly pulled a handgun on the owner, Burnett said. The owner grabbed his own handgun and fired, Burnett said.

The shop owner took the handgun away from Truong as he lay on the floor and then called police, Barnett said.
