NATION : Quayle Convenes Space Council

WASHINGTON — Vice President Dan Quayle today convened the first meeting of the new National Space Council, charged with developing a long-range policy for America’s civil, military and commercial space efforts.
Rear Adm. Richard Truly, nominated to be the next NASA chief, joined a host of other NASA, Air Force and government officials flanking Quayle, who leads the council, for a photo opportunity before the organizational meeting in the vice president’s office.
Quayle was asked by reporters what was on the agenda. He replied, “We’re going to take that up as soon as you leave.”
