Verdict in North’s Iran-Contra Trial

Share

Though I sympathize with former Lt. Col. Oliver North for taking the collective fall for the Iran-Contra affair, he reaped what he sowed. Though I cannot understand why the jury didn’t convict him on other charges relating to his self-admitted perjured testimony to Congress, at least the verdict showed that being a President’s man still does not put a person above the law.

As for the President involved, ex-Lt. Col. North doesn’t need any more friends like that. Though North took the heat for the ethical wrongdoing of his Administration, Ronald Reagan couldn’t be bothered to testify in support of his long-time aide, or offer any insights about the scandal at the trial. He wouldn’t even comment about the verdict after it was announced.

Semper fi, Ronnie.
