New Visions Entertainment, an independent film producer, said David Melamed has resigned as senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective today. The Beverly Hills firm recently failed to make a $743,000 interest payment on its bond debt and was seeking new financing after its movie, “Rooftops,” flopped at the box office. Melamed could not be reached for comment. President Irving H. Levin also did not return calls but said in a prepared statement that Melamed is to continue as a non-exclusive consultant until July 15, when he will announce his plans. Levin called the departing officer “an invaluable associate” since a predecessor firm, SLM Inc., was formed in 1981. New Visions Entertainment was established last August after merging with producer-director Taylor Hackford’s New Visions Inc.
