The Australian partnership that bought 24.4% of Barris Industries this month installed Frank P. Lowy as chairman of the Los Angeles producer of movies and television game shows. Lowy is executive chairman of Westfield Capital, one of the Australian partners.

In another personnel change for Barris that was announced Monday, Lowy’s son, Peter Lowy, was elected to the board. So were former U.S. Sen. John Tunney, now a real estate developer, and Lawrence C. Horowitz, an investment banker who once was chief of staff for Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

Also, Peter Guber and Jon Peters, producers of the Academy Award-winning film “Rain Man” and co-managing directors of Barris, had their titles changed. They now are co-chief executives of Barris and will continue to run daily operations.

The new major shareholder in Barris is a joint venture of Westfield and Northern Star Holdings. Peter Lowy is executive director of both Northern Star and Network 10 Australia, one of the three major television networks in Australia.
