A peaceful, day-long protest by Stanford University students demanding more minority faculty and ethnic centers ended with the arrest of 52 students, most of whom were cited for misdemeanors and released, university officials said. About 60 students took part in the protest occupied or barricaded the office of university President Donald Kennedy. After negotiations between the students and university officials failed, Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies began arresting protesters. Participants, who were trying to call attention to their demands that the university do more to end racism on campus, called a noon rally for today.
