Europeans Will Require Tobacco Warning Labels
Starting the same journey that the United States began in 1966, European Community health ministers today ordered that warnings appear on all packages of tobacco sold in member nations beginning in 1993.
The warning, “Smoking seriously damages health,” will be used on each pack.
The health ministers also passed tough laws requiring all cigarette packs to carry information on tar and nicotine levels and a second health warning from a list that includes:
--”Smoking kills.”
--”Smoking causes cancer.”
--”Smokers die younger.”
This second warning will be replaced regularly with other warnings from the approved list.
