The Los Angeles teachers’ strike has dropped the curtain on plans for some 5,000 minority students from inner city schools to attend the Dance Theatre of Harlem May 23-25. School officials also said that an outing for 13,000 students, 65-70% of them minority, to see the Joffrey Ballet at the Music Center was off as well. “The superintendent’s office has told us that all extra-curricular journeys are canceled in the Los Angeles Unified School District,” said Donald Dustin, director of performing arts for the district’s office of instruction.
