The U.S. House of Representatives voted 396 to 6 to bar American payments to the United Nations if the Palestine Liberation Organization is admitted to the world body or any U.N. agency. “Whatever the PLO is, it is not a sovereign state,” California Rep. Tom Lantos (D-San Mateo) said in support of the bill, which now goes to the Senate. The measure would bar both assessed and voluntary U.S. contributions.
