Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone will testify before Parliament next week--probably on Wednesday--on his links to an influence-peddling scandal that is bringing down his successor, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party said. The move is a concession to the increasingly strident opposition, which has boycotted Parliament to back demands that Nakasone testify. Prosecutors searched the homes and offices of a key former aide to Nakasone and another legislator. The two are suspected of taking bribes to help Recruit Co., an information and publishing conglomerate. Nakasone previously refused to testify on the issue. Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita announced April 25 that he would resign to take responsibility for the scandal.
