Authorities have been unable to identify a young man who spent 24 hours in 40-degree temperatures after he stowed away inside a refrigerated truck being driven from Nogales, Mexico, to Fresno. The man has been unable to give his identity but does respond to simple questions in Spanish or English and mentions Nogales, said Arline Ferguson, a nurse at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, where he was taken for treatment of hypothermia. The young man was found May 1 inside a T & T Refrigerated Transport truck when it stopped at its home base in Fresno to change drivers, and the new driver opened the cargo doors to check the load of melons. “It just scared us to death when he came out of that trailer,” said Beatrice Tiller, who owns the truck company with her husband. “He crawled out over the load and fell to the ground,” she added. “He didn’t talk; he just waved his arms like he was cold. He tried to walk, but he kept keeling over.”
