A Hell of a Play

I agree with Sylvie Drake that “Minamata” requires more than one viewing for one to begin to comprehend it (“A Chaotic Plaint for Our Fouled Nest,” May 14).
Good theater should stimulate. But “Minamata” overloads the senses. After about an hour, the discomfort mounted, and after 2 1/4 hours I felt that to watch “Minamata” for eternity would be a good definition of hell.
An hour’s editing, I believe, could preserve the integrity of the play without alienating the audience.
