From Times wire services

The stars of the Bolshoi Ballet said today the show must go on even if they have to pirouette in hand-me-downs after their luggage got lost.

Ten crates of costumes and props that were supposed to arrive ahead of the 30 Bolshoi dancers who are opening in Chicago on Thursday disappeared in New York after arriving via Aeroflot from Moscow, and the company is having to make do with borrowed goods.

The dancers will wear costumes loaned by the Ballet Chicago and the Milwaukee Ballet, which is sending its entire production of “Giselle” to Chicago by bus. But “it’s like if the White Sox went out onto the field in Cubs, Brewer and Indians uniforms,” a theater spokeswoman said.
