Countywide : 5 Schools in County Honored for Excellence

Five county schools received National Secondary Recognition Awards or Distinguished School Awards, the U.S. Department of Education announced.

The awards are based on the general excellence of the schools.

The five are McFadden Intermediate School, Santa Ana Unified School District; Fullerton High School, Fullerton Union High School District; Irvine High School, Irvine Unified School District; Los Alamitos High School, Los Alamitos Unified School District, and Mission Viejo High School, Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

Nationally, 176 schools earned the recognition awards, including 24 in California. Just one other California county, Santa Clara, had as many award-winning schools as did Orange County.
