WORLD : Ex-Nazi Officer Gets Life Sentence

LUENEBURG, West Germany —
A former Nazi concentration camp commander was jailed for life today for murdering two Soviet prisoners of war in 1944.
Horst Czerwinski, 66, was found guilty of shooting the two prisoners who tried to escape near the Auschwitz concentration camp. The Lueneburg court for lack of evidence cleared him of charges of killing six other prisoners. About 200 witnesses from Israel, the United States, Poland and Brazil testified during the trial’s 249 sessions.
