A teen-age gang member who allegedly killed a student and critically wounded a man picking up his daughter during a shooting rampage near a South-Central Los Angeles junior high school has been charged with murder.

Eliazar Bivian, 15, was shot twice in the head Friday and died outside George Washington Carver Junior High School last week.

The 14-year-old suspect, whose name was not released because of his age, also allegedly shot and critically wounded Jose Luis Mendez, 41, who was meeting his daughter near a sports field at the rear of the school. The suspect was expected to be arraigned today.

The teen-ager, who also allegedly fired off a round at two 13-year-old boys but missed, was charged at Eastlake Juvenile Court with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder, Deputy Dist. Atty. Barry Bradley said.

He was also charged with one count of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, for firing a shot that barely missed a mother and her infant child at the start of his rampage, and felony cruelty to an animal, Bradley said.

The youth also had shot and killed a chicken in an alley near 45th Street and Wadsworth Avenue.
