Demand for Labor Up: Demand for labor as measured by the volume of help-wanted advertising increased slightly during April. The Conference Board, a business research organization, said its monthly help-wanted advertising index rose to 157 in April from 151 in March. The index tracks the volume of classified advertising in 51 major American newspapers and is considered sensitive to changes in demand for labor and general business conditions.
