Charges will be filed against two Marines for their alleged involvement in a May 21 fire that caused $400,000 worth of damage to four condos at 15712 Pasadena Ave. in Tustin, authorities said Wednesday.

An investigation by the Orange County Fire Department and the Tustin Police Department turned up the suspects, who were identified as Pfc. Charles G. Simpson, 19, and Pvt. Donald Wasp, 19, both of El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

They will be charged by the district attorney with discharging military-type flares and recklessly causing a fire, according to Kathleen Cha, a County Fire Department spokesperson.

The flares set the roof of the condos afire, Cha said, and ignited five palm trees, as well as blistering the paint and blackening wood shingles on surrounding condos.
