The International Petroleum Exchange in London said it has begun trading in crude oil options and that opening-day trading volume exceeded last year’s introduction of Brent crude oil futures contracts.

The exchange said 719 Brent options were traded on the first day, compared to the 624 contracts registered June 23, the exchange’s first day of trading in Brent futures. Trading on the Brent futures has since averaged 7,500 contracts a day, the exchange said.
