Shirley Temple Black Due Czech Post
LONDON — President Bush announced Thursday that he plans to nominate Shirley Temple Black, the former child actress and diplomat, as the next U.S. ambassador to Czechoslovakia.
Black, 61, although best known as a child idol to movie-goers in the 1930s and ‘40s, has nearly 20 years of service as a diplomat for the U.S. government.
She was appointed by former President Richard M. Nixon to be part of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations in 1969 and 1970. She also has served as U.S. representative to the U.N. Conference on the Environment in Stockholm and as a staff member of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. She was named ambassador to Ghana in 1974 and later served as White House chief of protocol in the Gerald R. Ford Administration.
