MOSCOW — The top stage of a Proton booster rocket failed to burn completely in the atmosphere after putting three satellites into orbit, and fragments fell near the U.S.-Canadian border, Tass press agency reported today.
The two-paragraph dispatch did not say exactly where the fragments from the Proton rocket fell Wednesday, or whether there was any damage. “The incident is being investigated,” Tass said.
The Proton boosted into orbit the Cosmos satellites numbers 2,022, 2,023 and 2,024, but the third stage of the three-stage rocket failed to burn completely in the atmosphere, Tass said.
