IBM Unveils New Software: International Business Machines, taking a new tack in its personal computing software strategy, said it would market new publishing software to owners of personal computers made by its chief rivals, such as Compaq Computer. Ron Eich, an IBM publishing systems executive, said IBM was embarking on a new strategy of selling software for IBM-compatible machines made by other manufacturers. “There is no tie-in to IBM products, which is a bit of a change (in marketing strategy),” he said. “As we have seen the importance of software to the market, we will continue to make products that do not run just on IBM equipment.”
